In JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, the sequel to Jurassic World and the fifth in the Jurassic Park series, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) return to Isla Nublar. They want to save the dinosaurs before an erupting volcano will destroy the island.

According to the end credits, the movie was filmed on location in England and on three Hawaiian islands: O'ahu, Maui and Hawai'i. We visited all islands but watching the movie I only recognized O'ahu. It is hard to miss the Ka'a'awa Valley, part of the Kualoa Ranch, that is also featured prominently in the first and fourth film.

We did the Movie Tour at the Kualoa Ranch on 12 June 2017. Although a day later shooting on O'ahu started, this was not mentioned during the tour, even though that same month several scenes would be filmed at the Kualoa Ranch. A year later, after the film was released on dvd and blu-ray, I was able to compare my photos to the screenshots.

When the expedition arrives on the island, they head for what used to be Main Street where a brontosaurus passes by. This set had been made for the first Jurassic World and was partially reconstructed on Papailoa Beach, on the north shore of the island. However, the mountains in the background are in the Ka'a'awa Valley and were added digitally. By combining three photos I could construct a similar image. It took a while before I realized that the image in the film is mirrored. The scene in which a jeep drives through the valley is also a mirror image.

Trapped in a bunker, Claire and Franklin Webb (Justice Smith) manage to escape a baryonyx. The volcano has now erupted and the dinosaurs are trying to escape the lava. While running, Owen sees the tyrannosaurus rex. These scenes were filmed in the Ka'a'awa Valley.

Owen, Claire and Franklin escape the lava and end up in the ocean. They manage to come on land again, while above them a helicopter transports the T-rex. The beach where they come out of the water is Hālona Cove, previously seen in, among others, From Here to Eternity and Pirates of the Caribbean: On stranger tides. The beach is right along the Kalaniana'ole Highway. The scene was filmed on 7 and 8 July 2017, it would be the final shooting on Hawaii. We were here a month earlier, the photos are pretty similar.

The prehistoric sea monster Godzilla was created in Japan and made his first film appearance in 1954. The movie became a success and was followed by more than 20 sequels, some of which were adapted and also released in America. The film GODZILLA from 1998 was the first Hollywood production about the ‘king of monsters’.

This movie is largely situated in rainy New York where Godzilla wreaks havoc. Before the huge reptile sets foot on American soil huge paw prints of an unknown animal species are found in Panama. Dr. Niko "Nick" Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick), a scientist who researches the effects of radiation on nature in Chernobyl (Ukraine), is brought to the location.

These scenes were filmed in the Ka'a'awa Valley, part of the Kualoa Ranch, on the island of O'ahu in Hawaii in the summer of 1997. The same location can also be seen in Jurrasic Park and Jurassic World.

When Niko Tatopoulos arrives, the paw prints are already being researched. At first he does not realize that he is standing in one of them.

The paw prints can still be seen during the Movie Tour. They seem much smaller than in the film, at least much less deep and the toes are less pointed. According to our guide, American Godzilla has three toes and Japanese Godzilla has four toes.

The location filming for the movie JURASSIC PARK on the Hawaiian island Kaua'i was nearly finished when hurricane 'Iniki arrived on 11 September 1992. One of the most famous scenes, the rush of the gallimimus, was therefore filmed on the neighbouring island O'ahu.

The Ka'a'awa Valley proved to be the ideal location for the stampede. The valley is part of the Kualoa Ranch, a cattle ranch near the ocean with 4,000 acres of landscape. Films and television series have been made here since the 1950s. Visitors can visit the valley during the Movie Tour, a 90 minutes bus tour with a guide. Unfortunately, the bus stops only twice, first at the movie museum in a former World War II-bunker and then at the tree trunk that can be seen in Jurassic Park. Although we were given less than ten minutes to take pictures, the visit was worthwhile.

After being forced to spent the night in a tree, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and the children Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joseph Mazzello) try to find their way back to the visitor center. From a distance they see a herd of gallimimus, that suddenly comes running towards them. Hidden behind a dead tree they watch how one of the animals falls prey to the tyrannosaurus rex. The fields are normally used for cattle, as can be seen in the first photo.

More than twenty years after the first film, production returned to the Ka'a'awa Valley for the fourth film in the series, JURRASIC WORLD. In the years that have passed since the disastrous events of the first three films, a new and successful wildlife park with cloned dinosaurs has been established on Isla Nublar. Again, it all goes wrong when the indominus rex, a genetically engineered and aggressive dinosaur, breaks loose.

The shooting at the Kualoa Ranch took place in April 2014. Several sets were built at this location, including the 40 feet high residence of the indominus rex and the Gyrosphere station, a ride where visitors roam freely among the dinosaurs in spherical vehicles. On O'ahu, scenes were also filmed at the Honolulu Zoo and at the Hawaii Convention Center.
 
Just like in the first movie, a running herd of gallimimus can be seen, now being chased by a jeep with visitors. The monorail was digitally added to the mountain ridge.

In the movie museum of the Kualoa Ranch, the first stop during the Movie Tour, some props from the film are on display, including the sign at the entrance of the Gyrosphere.
