The second part of the film WHO AM I? is set entirely in Rotterdam. Jackie Chan arrives in this city in search of his identity after losing his memory in a helicopter crash in Africa. He receives help from the journalist Christine Stark (Michelle Ferre) but is also pursued by the corrupt CIA agent Morgan (Ron Smerczak).

The movie was filmed from February to October 1997, in the Netherlands as well as in South Africa, Namibia and Malaysia. During the final three months, filming took place at several locations in Rotterdam; for an overview of all the Dutch locations featured in this film, see my blog
Hollands Decor (in Dutch). However, location scout Bas van der Ree was unable to find a street in Rotterdam with traditional Dutch houses, so they had to fall back on Dordrecht.
This town has a historic centre and is situated 25 kilometres south-east of Rotterdam. Scenes in Dordrecht were filmed from 18 to 23 July 1997.
The character played by Jackie Chan has the same name. Near the cube houses (see
Rotterdam, Netherlands), he managed to shake off his attackers but lost his shoes in the process. In his socks, he runs to Vleeshouwersstraat ('Butchers' Street'), where removal men are at work. A distinctive feature of this little street are the flags, both in the film and during our visit. According to the website
Indebuurt, there were already a few flags hanging there, which a Canadian tourist liked so much that donated a Canadian flag. Since then, more flags have been added, mainly from tourists. Above the entrance of number 37 hangs a large bull’s head, a reminder of the time when butchers operated here and the street was given its current name.

Jackie runs on and ends up in Voorstraat. At number 428 there is a souvenir shop and he stumbles over a rack of clogs in all sorts of colours and sizes. He tries to shake off his pursuers by pelting them with the clogs. To make this scene even more ‘Dutch’, alongside the clogs there is also a lady in traditional costume and a barrel organ. The souvenir shop is gone, it is now a coffee bar.

At number 30, a piano is being hoisted up; a small dog is sitting on top of it. When one of the pursuers threatens Jackie Chan with a gun, the removal men, startled, let go of the ropes and the piano falls to the ground. The little dog falls too, but is caught by Jackie.

As Jackie runs away, a few glass panels fall to the ground. In this scene, the little dog has been replaced by a toy animal.

Teddy, a Maltese dog, was spotted by the film crew whilst being walked by his neighbour, Mette Korteland. She also appears in the scene on Vleeshouwersstraat, amongst others when Jackie Chan lets the dog off the lead. The Knolhaven can be seen in the background.
