American screenwriter Kirsten Hansen says in an online interview that she originally wanted the story to be set in Italy during Christmas, with the working title European Wedding. Since she always wanted to visit Ireland, she decided to move the story to the emerald island and no longer set during Christmas. Filming took place in Dublin (standing in for New York), at Ireland West Airport Knock, in the town of Westport, at Lough Tay lake and at the Cliffs of Moher. Shooting in Ireland took place from 5 September to 14 October 2022.

Most scenes are set in and around Killruddery House, a large country house located about 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) south of Dublin near the town of Bray in County Wicklow. The film features the estate as the childhood home of writer Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos). His editor Maddie Kelly (Lindsay Lohan) is secretly in love with him, but he is getting married to her best friend Emma Taylor (Elizabeth Tan). When Maddie wishes Paul would marry her, she wakes up as a bride-to-be instead of a bridesmaid, much to her surprise.

Killruddery House was built in 1651 in Tudor style and has been reconstructed and extended several times over the years. The estate has been owned by the Brabazon family since the sixteenth century. In 1627, William Brabazon became the first Earl of Meath. Current owner John Anthony Brabazon is the 15th earl. Since 2016, his son Lord Anthony lives and manages the house, gardens and farm with his family. Visitors are welcome from April to October, for more information visit Killruddery House.

The house can only be visited during a guided tour, the gardens are accessible without a guide. We only visited the gardens. Visitors are given a useful map, a reservation is not necessary.

When Maddie arrives at the house, she is welcomed on the forecourt by Paul's brother Kory (Matty McCabe), No. 19 on the map. This part of the estate is not open to the public but photographs may be taken from a distance. The clock tower, No. 18, was built in 1820. A pendulum clock powered by water was installed in 1909, designed by the 13th Earl, Reginald Brabazon.
